Ole Ole Ole! It’s that time of the year….catalog shoot time. So while many of you are probably trying to squeeze in the last few days of float life, BBQ’s, beaches, bikini’s, warm weather surf and all those other wonderful things about summer. We decided to end it early and take some of the team down to Chile to shoot the 2011.12 Catalog, and what can we say? Such a good decision!
The Mike Yoshida
First met up with K2 Staff Photographer and video cameo master Mike Yoshida. Between the two of us we had around 14 bags including our photo gear. Packed everything into my girfriend’s Subaru. Not enough room for me and Mike so we had to get a cab as well. Good times. Then we had an interesting challenge of trying to get 10 bags of product onto a jumper flight to LAX. Thanks to the counter ladies at United for the straight hook up! We met the majority of the rest of the crew in Los Angeles which consisted of Jordan Mendenhall, Travis Parker, Gretchen Bleiler, Leanne Pelosi, and one of our filmers for the trip Sam Hiltner. 13 hours, a quick stop in Lima, some delicious wine, and a couple Advil PM’s and we were in Santiago.
Customs in Chile is pretty mellow. Brought in over 30 snowboards. Helps if you pretend not to know what they are asking you.
The drive up from Santiago to the Farallones area is a fun one. Over 39 counted switch backs on a road not much wider than your car in some areas climbing around 4,000 feet. We arrived at our house for the trip right next to El Colorado Resort, one of the first houses to built up here. Farallones is next to four resorts El Colorado, Valle Nevado, La Parva, and Farallones. Every window has a view of the Andes. Not bad.

our home for the next week. we do all of these activities.
Just a lil’ update from Mt. Hood! Last week was my signature session at High Cascade, as well as the women’s k2 alliance product testing week. It was awesome to check out the new line for 2011. There’s definitely some sick product that I can’t wait to get on! We’ll be shooting the catalog with the K2 team in Chile coming up in August…so not too many sleeps to go and we’ll be shredding some deep pow and getting some soul turns in. Yes!
So back to HCSC…one of my favorite features at high cascade was the airbag. I was pretty skeptical of the whole idea when it came out because I’d heard of so many people getting hurt. I passed by a bunch of campers so unbelievably stoked that they’d gotten all these tricks they’d been working on, so I figured I might as well give it a go. It didn’t seem like many people were getting hurt, and I saw some carnage go down! One of my first tries I rotated a backflip so slowly that I had time to visualize everything possible that was going to go wrong before my face hit the bag. And all I got was a bruised ego. So…from there, I decided that this was a good thing for my snowboarding. I’m getting to work on some tricks that I haven’t had the chance to try in awhile.
The search is on to hire two candidates to participate in the Old Spice Fresh Adventure Internship to celebrate the brand’s first line of destination-based anti-perspirant/deodorant. The Fresh Collection gives guys the chance to smell like some of the freshest places on earth: Fiji, Matterhorn, Cyprus and Denali. As part of their job requirement, the interns will be reporting on their scent-inspired adventures in Matterhorn and Fiji, via social media channels. Each intern will also be outfitted with $5,000 and an itinerary of “jobs” to complete and document while on location.
To help better prepare the interns for their adventure, Old Spice is teaming up with two world-class athletes: professional snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler and professional surfer Anastasia Ashley, who are coming on-board as internship mentors. For more information, visit www.oldspiceadventure.com.
“I am excited to be working with Old Spice on the Fresh Collection Internship Search,” said Gretchen Bleiler, professional snowboarder. “It’s not often that someone gets a chance to go to Matterhorn or Fiji as part of an internship, let alone get paid to snowboard all day and rock some lederhosen!”
