Timberline at Mount Hood is often seen as the holy grail of summer snowboarding (and for good reason), but what happens between the wet winter and the influx of summer camps is a mystery. The Keep The Change gang answers all of these questions and more in three minutes, and it’s safe to say that hot laps on Stormin’ Norman have never looked so good.
Words & Video by Nick Meilleur | Photos by Colton Jacobs /// What an opening month of shredding December was. Mother Nature arrived in the PNW with a resounding blizzard and did not let up for quite some time. Kael Martin, Greg Phillips, Jay Kelly and John Shaw set out to enjoy the goods on opening day at The Summit at Snoqualmie and Alpental. It was pretty hard to find any part of the mountain that wasn’t a ripping good time!
Hotlapping some of our favorite zones, everyone was real stoked at how light the snow was thanks to lower than average temps we are seeing this winter. Perfect for getting our shred legs back up and running!
The northwest is known for its interesting vegetation, and accumulation of features: pillows, stunt ditches, tree jibs, the list goes on. While the early snowfall did provide excellent coverage, it was fun seeing trees, shrubs and sticks that are usually completely covered up showing their heads (amidst deep pow).
When we weren’t hitting the side stashes, the slopes were a medley of slashes, bashes, carves and airs.
At the end of the day, we just wanted to keep ridin’ powder. Lucky for us, the snow came back and free refills became the new policy.
We’re stoked on what’s to come, hope your season is also off to a great start!
Need motivation to shred this season? Adrian Krainer will inspire you. His 2015 season edit has us psyched to shred. Also, keep your eyes and ears peeled for Mr. Krainer this upcoming winter. He’s doing big things. Check out the edit below and enjoy.
K2 Snowboarding is pumped to announce the addition of versatile rider Jody Wachniak to its Canadian Pro Team. With roots in Whistler, British Columbia, Jody’s flawless style and technique make him a versatile rider who crushes urban riding, as well as park and backcountry shredding.
“I couldn’t be more hyped to have Jody on the team,” said Taylor Ricci, K2 Canadian Team Manager. “The kid is one of the good guys and his positive personality is contagious. Welcome to the family Jody, it’s been a long time coming.”
Hailing from Oakbank, Manitoba, with fellow K2 athlete Jake Kuyzk, Jody and Jake grew up shredding their local hill – Springhill Winter Park – together through high school and ride together as much as they possibly can.
“Jody is one of my oldest friends and we grew up snowboarding together,” said Jake. “As years went on and our snowboarding progressed, we were led in different directions with different sponsors. I’m so hyped to see Jody on K2. We are finally on the same team now.”
Graduating early from high school thanks to the extra credits he earned from playing in jazz band, Jody moved straight to Whistler to take his riding to the next level. His versatile skills and charismatic personality make him the perfect addition to the talented K2 Canadian Team.
“I’m so hyped to be part of a company and team that promotes snowboarding as a good time and has been supporting snowboarding for over 25 years,” said Jody. “I’m looking forward to being a part of this family – thanks K2.”
Riding the Fastplant and Lien Bindings, Jody joins the Canadian team that includes: Blair McKinney, Matts Kulisek and Taylor Godber.

He’s weird yet calculated. He’s confident yet humble. He’s a country boy with good ol country style and he fucking rips on a snowboard. Travis parker’s protégé and our good buddy, Ben Lynch. We expect to see more from this hill billy in the near future but for now take a look at what Ben’s been up to so far this season.
